Moment of Truth #4 - Your Legacy Letter
Let´s assume that you are a success and that you get promoted out of your new role. What would you like your announcement to say? Have you ever thought to write this down, before you even start in the role?
If you are at General Manager or equivalent level, it means that you have been promoted approximately 5 times, so you know the drill. Beyond the standard language, how do you capture the unique contribution of the individual.
This is important not just as a motivator for the person being promoted but also for the culture of the organisation in terms of what results and behaviours are celebrated.
As a coach, I have found this to be a real eye-opener with clients. Before you are ´captured´ by the role, to reflect on what you want to achieve, and hence what the announcement will say about you. This will help you to thrive, not just to survive, e.g. Does “enjoying the experience” appear? And this includes the going away gift your team will give you.
For the non-Russian speakers amongst you, my team summed me up with the slogan “We will over-deliver the 5 year plan!”
