S2. E3. How coaching made me a better commercial leader with Google´s José Pulpón
José believes that his career progress is thanks to his willingness to put himself in situations where he had to learn “new languages”- be that French & English or digital marketing as a “Noogler” (new at Google).
His first exposure to coaching was while working for a leader who was a believer. How he felt uncomfortable at first but recognised that it could be very powerful.
While he prefers to leave it to his customers to talk about his strengths as a commercial leader, he is sure that truly listening to customers, and using powerful questions helps him to build empathy and trust.
And reflecting on his own career, especially coming to terms with the setbacks, leads him to give the following advice to first time leaders with ambition:
“Take time on self-awareness, because emotional intelligence is increasingly important as you progress, and seek external coaching support to complement your boss and to give you the external perspective you will need”
Thanks for listening, and if you think this can help a colleague, please share.
