6. Rethinking your approach to onboarding senior leaders with Anait Pogosyan
We discuss the dilemma of choosing an internal vs external candidate. There are 3 factors to consider; the actual role, company culture, and the biases of the hiring team.
We look at the onboarding process and the importance of
1. Getting the most out of it, benefitting from the “fresh eyes”, and
2. being clear on when it ends and what are your success criteria for the onboarding itself.
Anait talks from her own personal experience about the importance of reaching out for support, because “if you don’t ask for it, it won´t come in time.”
We talk about an alternative approach for external hires – recognising that they can benefit from pro-active support rather than presume that they are “all set”. This can deliver a smoother transition, a less stressful onboarding and faster delivery.
And her parting advice for the boss of a new leader, “you need to recognise that there is a shared accountability in terms of the new leaders success”.
