Reflect on how many ”Welcome speeches” you have heard in your career and how many you remember.
Did the leader convey clarity on the challenge they faced, demonstrate a willingness to renew themselves, behave in a way coherent with what they wanted to achieve and communicate clearly what they wanted to deliver. ie had they done their homework and were they able to use the ”welcome” platform as a springboard to accelerate progress OR was it warm words, and a case of a missed opportunity leaving the organization unclear of what was coming next.
Whilst the welcome speech can never have all the answers, it is the moment to be clear on who you are, the values and goals that you represent, your style and how you plan to conduct business.
